Expect India to strongly oppose IMF assistance to Pak: Congress

The Congress on Monday alleged that the IMF has said its executive board will sit on May 9 to review Pakistan's bid for a new $1.3 billion loan and added that it would await India's robust opposition to this aid.

Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh stated the IMF has only recently made it known that its executive board is sitting to discuss Pakistan's application for a fresh $1.3 billion loan under the IMF's Resilience and Sustainability Facility.

Mr. Ramesh also posted the screenshot of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Board calendar which indicated that it will meet on May 9 to discuss the "first review under the extended arrangement under the extended fund facility, request for modification of performance criteria, and request for an arrangement under the resilience and sustainability facility".

The Congress last Thursday (April 24, 2025) had said the cowardly Pahalgam attack masterminded by Pakistan is a direct assault on the values of our republic.
